Motorcycle Grandma Linda’s Ride

DQ is an amazing 16 year old young man.  He has more gumption than most adults I know.  After spending his 16th summer in the hospital in pain and surgery after surgery he finally got to go home to his “foster family” last week.  DQ has muscular dystrophy and a bad heart.  He cannot walk at all and uses a wheelchair.

You see foster family in quotations because from what I have heard of this family they have been there for DQ as much as any family could be.  His “foster mom and dad” were no longer getting their monthly payments from the system to care for DQ because technically he was not in their home at the moment.  That did not stop them from being by his side during this traumatic time in his life.  This was their child and they were not going to just leave him alone in a hospital 80+ miles away just because some agency quit sending them money.

His mom spent days and nights on end with him while dad was home with the other children (they foster several others and have adopted some too), then they would trade off for a bit so she could spend some time with the other children.  She has had to learn special medical procedures to care for his incisions at home as he still has open wounds that need care.

One of their main concerns was how would they get DQ back and forth to his medical appointments as he is confined to a wheelchair now.  This week God answered those prayers by providing them with the necessary equipped van for his transportation.

I spoke to DQ’s mom two days ago and her own desktop had just broke down and it was in for repairs.  I have not heard back from her yet so it may still be in the shop.

One dream his mom has for DQ is a laptop so that he can do school work and other tasks.  He has already started a fund and has a small amount collected.  A good friend of mine, Wendy, with a large readership on her blog has written more about this here also with a photo of DQ.

I have contacted Dell and got a quote for a Dell laptop, but we are also open to any other suggestions anyone might have.  DQ is very excited about getting a laptop and has been saving what little money he has to go in for it.  Please feel free to contact me with what ever help or ideas you have.   Thank you.
